West Coast Connections
Our new book by Stuart D. Bell will be released on Monday 11th August
GVVT is delighted to announce the publication its latest book which goes on sale on Monday 11th August. ‘West Coast Connections’ is the story of West Coast Motors.

From the southern tip of the Kintyre Peninsula, three generations of Craig Brothers have built a business that has grown from tiny Campbeltown roots in 1921 to the current cross-country network serving greater Scotland. This detailed history takes a broad view from the first connections with timelines showing how they combined to form today’s vibrant organisation.

Illustrated from the collections of some of the country’s top photographers, a comprehensive range of vehicle types in the 105 years of development are covered in eight colourful chapters from Campbeltown to Berwick upon Tweed.
The book has been lovingly and painstakingly authored and curated by Stuart D. Bell who has been absorbed by the operations and activities of transport in the Western Highlands and Islands of Scotland for more than 60 years. Running to over 250 pages, the book is highly readable, packed with pictures and full of information. Almost 500 photographs, maps and timelines. All yours for only £30!

Well known and respected transport photographer, John Sinclair, offered the following review:
“It really is a treat and a joy to read because of its presentation, detailed content and illustrations. Fabulous. The route maps make such a difference making the book so readable, and they are tabulated in the index too. As always, the themes are a great idea, and the catchy titles like “The invasion of the 2011 Spanish Armada” make for great reading, and the mini fleet lists interspersed with text and illustrations is so much better than just lumping together fleet lists at the end. All for £30! Off to give it a more in depth read now.”
Stuart has given over this book to GVVT to publish meaning that all proceeds from its sale go to the Trust. This is an exceptionally kind gesture by Stuart for which the Trust is extremely grateful.
So to get your hands on a copy, please visit our online shop from 11th August. It will also be on sale in the ‘Wee Happy Shop’ at the Bridgeton Bus Garage from the next Super Sunday event on 7th September.
