New Family Friendly Guided Tour Option

Due to the phenomenal success of our guided tours we are now offering a family friendly version our regular tour commencing 28th December, ideal for something unusual to do during the Christmas and New Year break! The Family friendly version will feature slightly indepth information from our tour guides to keep the younger visitors interested, we’ll also feature some more hand-on parts including the chance to sit in the bus drivers seat, try on old transport uniform and issue tickets from vintage ticket machines. Our regular tours are still suitable for visitors of all ages covering our collection of around 140 buses, coaches, fire engines and commercial vehicles!

Annual Open Weekend 2021

Join us for the return of the main event of our calendar, on 9th and 10th of October

Visitors will be able to enjoy the sights and sounds of yesteryear with our free vintage bus services to and from the City Centre and the Riverside Museum. The frequent service will use a selection of historic buses from the GVVT collection together with a number of visiting vehicles. The service will operate to a timetable which will be posted here and our facebook and twitter accounts before the event.

Inside the garage, we’ll have a fine display of buses, commercial vehicles and fire engines again many visiting the garage from elsewhere. We will also have a number of modern buses from today’s operators which will let visitors contrast buses of today with their predecessors from the 20th Century. The vehicle displays also give the visitor insight into all stages of vehicle restoration, from rusting hulks, to preservation in progress and finally to the restored vehicle.

Other popular activities will be running:

We will have a large number of stalls selling souvenirs, books, models, photos and autojumble.

There will be an exhibition of artefacts from the GVVT Archive.

The Model Bus Federation will be bringing their dioramas showing their models in a range of street scenes.

Finally, and not to be forgotten, the Clippie’s Café will be opening serving refreshments and light snacks (including lots of delicious homebaking!)

Admission prices:

Adults £8, Child (5-15) £5, Senior £5, Family (2 Adults and up to 2 children) £20. A weekend pass is available (adults £13, child/senior £8). Under 5’s are free.
