Family and Community Fun Day 2019

The Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust will be opening its Bridgeton Bus Garage to the public from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm on Sunday 4th August 2019

This Open Sunday will have a Family/Community theme.  In addition to our regular offering, we will have a number of different activities and visitors.  These will all be confirmed in due course.

As usual, visitors will have access to wander round and look at what goes on, seeing vehicle restoration work at all stages.  This will include our large display of restored vehicles.  GVVT volunteers will also be on hand around the building to help visitors with queries and answer questions

To let visitors experience travel 1960’s style, one of our preserved Glasgow Corporation buses will operate a free half hourly service between the garage and George Square in the city centre.  The service will depart George Square (at the bus stop between North Hanover Street and North Frederick Street) at 1100, 1130, 1200, 1230, 1300, 1330, 1400, 1430, 1500, 1530 and 1600.

We will have a number of displays from our Archives which chart aspects of Glasgow’s transport history going back over 100 years.  There will also be a display from our Back on the Road programme.

The GVVT’s Leyland Leopard single decker will be parked up in the yard for those who want to see what it’s like to sit behind the wheel of a bus.

Activities for kids include our Lego man treasure hunt.  New for this year, there are two other treasure hunt games, one to find the wee coloured buses and another where the eagle-eyed need to spot different details on some of the vehicles in the garage

Our much-celebrated Clippie’s Café will be open serving a range of refreshments and snacks.

Entrance Prices remain unchanged at Adult £5.00, Child/OAP £3.00, Family £12.00.

Entrance to Bridgeton Bus Garage via Broad Street door.  Here visitors will be met by one of our GVVT Volunteers.
